I have had some mild blistering on the inner (medial) side of my big toes, so with the sizing issue, thicker socks may be warranted. I am excited to see a true stability shoe, especially a high-level stability shoe from Adidas after seeing stability be so weak for this company for years. It provides guidance on both sides of the foot with noticeable pressure but well-integrated pressure.

The Brooks upper is a little more plush, and the heel is much softer, while both toeboxes are very close in width. When the Adistar arrived, I was sure that was about to change in all its beautiful-thick-stack glory. Adidas fans who want something lighter and cushier can go for the Adidas Ultraboost Light based on our test in the lab. The firmer foam, made of 15% recycled EVA, located in the heel, protects and helps stabilize any heel strike.

The upper feels slightly warm because of all the padding and the overlays but there are holes on the top of the toe box for extra ventilation. If you have a shoe rotation with space for an easy option that isn’t excessively soft and springy, but rather smooth and stable, it will fill that spot. They have just a little bit of bounce, but you’re not going to confuse it with the Nike ZoomX Invincible Flyknit or Skechers Performance Max Road 5. Alternatively, we can recommend the Nike Invincible Run 3 and Hoka Clifton 9 to runners who want a soft yet responsive ride. Our views are based on our extensive history in the footwear industry and years testing and developing footwear. Jeff runs 30 miles per week on roads and trails around Denver, CO (and sometimes on the treadmill when the weather gets too much for a Phoenix native). And since Adidas is now taking the Ultraboost series in a new direction by focusing on female runners, the time was ripe to release a running shoe that fills the void. So, if you are after a plush ride, go for the New Balance FF More v4 or the Brooks Glycerin 20 (maybe even the Glycerin 20 GTS if you crave support).

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. There is a 6mm drop listed, but this feels higher due to the contrast in durometer between the heel and the rest of the shoe. It's supposed to be a remake of a classic but it has nothing in common with the old Adistar Boost: the new Adistar is firmer, heavier and clunkier. On the outsole, there’s a lot of grippy Continental rubber on the medial and lateral sides with a deep, decoupled groove right in the middle which helps centre the weight and smoothens transitions. The rocker is aggressive and often clunky, which may be due to the firmness and excessive stiffness from the plate.
