Description

This is just the sort of read you need if you are planning a back country trip as it will help prepare you for all sorts of eventualities.

Based on the 5Cs of Survivability: cutting tools, covering, combustion devices, containers, and cordages. With Canterbury's guidance, you'll not only prepare yourself for any climate and situation, you'll also learn how to use the art of bushcraft to reconnect with nature in ways you've never imagined. There are those, such as Will Lord, who thrive on explorations of the most primitive skills such as flint-knapping, hide tanning and traditional fire lighting. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

While others will pack in a wide variety of modern camping equipment such as nylon tarps and hammocks, synthetic sleeping bags and lightweight pots and use bushcraft skills to make their stay more interesting or comfortable. Compared to the SAS book that can fit into a pocket, this is inferior in quality of information, but if it's the only book on this subject you have, it has the information that will aid a person that lacks these basic outdoor skills. With advice on not just getting along, but truly reconnecting with the great outdoors, Dave Canterbury’s treasure trove of world-renowned wisdom and experience comes to life within these pages.

This valuable guide offers only the most important survival skills to help you craft resources from your surroundings and truly experience the beauty and thrill of the wilderness. With Canterbury's guidance you will not only prepare yourself for any climate and situation you'll also learn how to use the art of Bushcraft to reconnect with nature in ways you never imagined. It covers the basics well, although there are several times when the book tells you about a device, like a trap, but doesn't tell you how to make it. What we like: The author pairs straightforward writing with helpful instruction to make a survival guide that is easy to follow and can be easily applied to a range of scenarios. Advanced Bushcraft expands the 5 Cs model to encompass critical tools, equipment and skills to extend your stay in the wilds, teaching you much of what you would need to know about living sustainably long-term in the woods.Shelters, both from your surroundings, to Tarpaulin set ups, I have The Collins "Book of Knots" This book here covers your basic knots as well, I have the same Collins book of "Free Food" this book also covers that, if not in so much detail, it's got enough that you will need. If you already have a decent amount of experience in the woods, I would check out the sequel to this book; Advanced Bushcraft. Dave is the author of Bushcraft 101, Advanced Bushcraft, and The Bushcraft Guide to Trapping, Gathering, and Cooking in the Wild.

Bushcraft 101 is an introduction to these personal principles on how to make the most of your time in the woods utilising traditional skills and equipment. Bushcraft 101 gets you ready for your next backcountry trip with advice on making the most of your time outdoors. I have been following Dave’s work for some time as his personal philosophy of relying on minimal, but durable and high-quality gear is something I strive to achieve. For reading this, for the obvious Internet use, my spare "Pebble Charger" which charges my tablet 2x.
