06 (facelift) Tourer EX Graphite w/ Pentas, Stage 1 Remap by

Stop/start hasn’t worked since I started doing only short journeys, apart from immediately after charging up the battery. OP - First off check the Ground point on the drivers side strut tower, then take a good look round the loom for chafe points, with the engine running and the light off, get some one to watch it and give the loom and the plugs the "wiggle test" - which should be self explanatory, hopefully some part of it will cause the failure. Which is very close to what MB were as king with labour all in so could be tempted to go with MB direct. b) If the mechanic didn't replace the cracked fuel filter housing, probably air is being sucked into the fuel system.

My oil temp got up to 106c then dropped off to 101c but no idea if that is normal as I don’t usually lock the gearbox in 5th. First off unplug the main ECU connector and look for corrosion (8mm bolt runs through it, just in front of the firewall drivers side) then follow the cables looking for chafe. First time in the day I drive the car it all works fine, the next time I drive it flashes the glow plug icon and shows the start stop system failure. I`ve just found something in the manual (I was looking for info on changing bulbs believe it or not) and it explains how to clear air from the system and stop the glow plug light flashing and guess what. I dont think you need the engine running, just keep priming the bulb above the filter till it gets rock solid, run the car for a minute and then pump it again till its hard, hopefully that should clear any air in the system.

Just been out for 29 mile drive on a reasonably fast A road (no d/cways anywhere near here) mostly with the gearbox held in 5th and at 2,500rpm, hopefully flushed out the DPF and fan wasn’t on when I stopped, with either engine on or shut down.the only way you truely know whether you need to change the glow plugs is when your car starts to struggle on cold mornings when starting it such as the mornings we are having.
